Establishing itself as one of the leading digital hubs in Africa is Kenya because of its improved internet connectivity.
The country’s internet penetration has improved with millions of people now using mobile networks and fixed broadbands for their everyday activities.
Many companies are in place to provide faster internet speeds to the population through 5G , 4G and 3G networks . The major providers are Safaricom , Airtel and Telkom .
These companies have improved internet access through offering affordable data packages making online access more attainable across the country .
Fixed broadband infrastructure has also seen rapid growth with fiber optic cables now installed in major cities like Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu to deliver faster internet speeds .
The major providers are Zuku , Faiba and Poa .
Underwater cables have also increased in Kenya including TEAMS , EASSy and SEACOM increasing the bandwidth from 2.4Gps to 5.6Tbps .
Social media is another aspect defining Kenya’s internet landscape with platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X , instagram,TikTok among others thus improving online communication as a means of interaction .
Other digital platforms like mobile banking , e-commerce , agritech , have also improved thus efficiency.
Despite the impressive progress , internet connectivity in Kenya also faces a few challenges like expensive data packages to some locals , cybersecurity like fraud and identity theft , and digital literacy among others .
By and large as Kenya advances in its digital transformation journey, internet connectivity will continue to shape various aspects of daily life , education , e commerce and health.
