Kenya Safari Cost

Kenya Safari cost

Kenya is a dream destination for many travelers because its one of the best places to spot the big five , and as well experience the rich culture. However travelers should put into consideration the cost of the entire safari to avoid any financial inconveniences .

One of the first things that affect price is the accommodation with options ranging from budget , mid range and luxury . Usually budget travelers can go for basic lodges for as low as USD 20 per night, mid range for as low as USD 150 to 300 and luxury lodges ranging from USD 600 and above .

The cost of your accommodation greatly affects the cost so make a choice within your means .

Another factor affecting cost are the park entry fees . Most parks have different park entry fees charged daily  and these are charged to ensure protection and conservation of wildlife. Masai mara charges about USD 200 per day in the high season and USD 100 per day in the low season for non residents and Amboseli charges about USD 60 per day also for non residents . All these fees are mandatory and paid by all tourists.

More to that is transport a key factor affecting cost . Most safaris include game drives in 4×4 vehicles and these may cost about USD 400 per day for private drives and USD 200 for groups per person.

For tourists who prefer a flight from Nairobi to parks like Masai mara or Amboseli a one way flight ticket costs about USD 150 to USD 300 .

The duration of the entire safari also affects the cost . Typically the longer the safari the higher the cost . A 3 day safari usually costs between USD 500 to USD 1500 per person and a 7 day safari costs between USD 2000 to USD 6000 per person.

Additional safari activities can enhance your safari experience but add on the cost . Activities like guided nature walks , bird watching , boat cruises can increase the entire cost of the safari .

The seasonality also affects price , usually the dry season comes with higher demand and hence a higher cost in the months of December to February and June to September.

However the wet season from March to April and October to November the prices are low due to fewer crowds and less demand .

By and large , the cost of a Kenyan safari varies according to your choice of accommodation, duration , transport and activities.
